I am changing brake pads for the first time on my 2001 MN6. I have 26k miles on the car and I use it as a daily driver. I don't want to spend alot of money on the job (less than $300 would be good), but would like to upgrade performance. Thinking of just Hawk pads (don't think rotors need to be replaced). Any advice?
hawk pads are very good. I had the Autocross pads on my car and they had that extra bite to stop the car better than the stock pads. For over all satisfaction I would stick to the OEM pads for less dust and noise. :yesnod:
The stock setup on the Corvette is really very, very, good indeed.
Unless you are intending on some significant autosports next year, maybe the OEM pads are all you need? There's no loss of face there, many do just fine with just that. If you do want to go up a shade, I'd also second Hawks but be warned, they are quite dusty.
Re: Changing Brakes - Need Advice/Opinions (chocoholic)
I've got the Hawk HP's and they bite better than stock and I have a couple of hard DE days on them. Don't notice the dust mutch more than the stock brakes, but despite proper bedding, they do squeak a bit. They quit squeaking for a couple hundred miles after a track day, but eventually get a bit noisy again. If I was just using the car on the street, I'd stick with stock.
Re: Changing Brakes - Need Advice/Opinions (kraff)
I switch to Hawk and they do perform better. My vette is a daily driver, I get more dust from these then OEM. They brake better, I do get a little noise from them once in a while. But I got these pads for $125.00 front and rear on the C5 parts sale section. You can get some OEM as well like new for a great price.
Brake pads are a fickle deal because performance pads are designed for
either constant braking or braking at high speeds allot. With that you get
dust and at low speeds some squeaking.
I've done both HAWK and EBC Greenstuff pads, and also replaced my
rotors with BAER's. The Z06 pad might be a good up-grade than just
stock pads.
