LS7, but are you aware they have problems with valves in those heads that can destroy the whole engine?
Maybe LS3 crate or build instead?
Mine has almost 89K still stock, have thought of LS7 block with striker to make 440 but those head issues steer me away, and I've read guys that have the heads fixed, sometimes those still break valves too!
I've read it's on any LS7 car or crate, including Z06 and Camero, even some aftermarket heads to replace factory heads failed too.
I say just build an ls1 to what you want. Of course starting out with an LS7 is always nice. I just think a modded C5 with a period correct ls1 that can hang with newer ls engines is the coolest option.
Why would you rebuild an 80K LS1? Either slap a blower on it or cam it. Don't know what your power goals are but the LS1 is very capable. I've seen LS7s going for $10K+. That's a lot of money that could be used to make an LS1 go well beyond 505HP.
