Default I'm stranded at movie theater

I know I know, should have bought one of those column lock kit things, and I will once I get home.

Steering wheel is locked, I had this problem in 2004 and seems there was a technique to pull a fuse and aggressively rock steering wheel back and forth, then retry.

I have not tried the fuse but pulled negative battery cable and waited 3 minutes, still locked.

I think the battery may be weak even though it's 7 months old.

Would a jump starter pack hooked on battery terminals help?

I know I'm stupid for not buying that column lock before, and I will buy it.

Tried that several times but no go, gf left work and brought a mini jump starter, that didn't help.

Took out battery and brought home, 12.4 volts. That's probably it, have it charging on middle setting 10 amp hours to try to hurry.

First time I ever drive car to theater in over 15 years, it does this. Lol

Saw Jaws it was cool on big screen.

I'm hoping battery charges up and I can get it out of there.

It's possible battery is weak since my A/C is broke, and I have not been driving it as much, but at least 2 times a week, maybe that's not enough?

Or alternator going out or bad battery, only 7 months old but it's possible.

Got battery charged up and put back in, first try still locked, pulled key waited yanked steering wheel hard, 2nd try got it.

Is Compliance parts the brand recommended for steering lock bypass?

They make the CAGS bypass also, need to do that too.

Also if steering wheel is unlocked with bypass, engine will still shutoff at 2mph?

Have to pay a tuner to raise mph of engine shutoff to make it work?

Had recall done in 2004, GM payed for it months after my complaint, maybe it was a class action thing, GM Corporate told me recall was done in 1999 or 2000 for previous owner, I asked if that's so, why is it still malfunctioning?

So I'll need to find what they did first.

Purchase the LMC5 asap from Compliance parts and install it...many keep it in the glove box. You have been a member since 2010. This problem has been written up thousands of times.

Maybe they said repaired in 1999 or 2000, the car is a manual transmission.

I will do the brown wire hookup.

Good information, thank you!

Got the LMC5 and the CAGS bypass ordered from Compliance Parts (better price than Amazon even with their free shipping on LMC5), says 2-5 business days.

I will not drive car until the I get LMC5 put on.

It should be mandatory in every glove box for those that like to gamble.

I read somewhere that HP Tuners can turn off the steering lock setup.

Is this as good as the LMC5 kit?

Oh ok, glad I bought the LMC5 then.

I don't mind the light coming on about CAGS.

So if the battery is weak, will it cause the pull key message after LMC5 installed?

Need to find out if battery is bad, or alternator etc, or if it was just weak from not driving everyday (been driving it about 2 times a week) since it got extra hot and A/C being out.

In fact I'll go disconnect negative cable now, been sitting since Tuesday night after getting it home.

Hoping for the parts to come by next Friday, said 2-5 business days, but nothing shipped Thursday or Friday yet.

Disconnected negative cable, battery at 12.3 volts.

Put in on the low amp charge with timer set for 2 hours(old fashioned Schumacher charger), will check on it after a hour.

Ok, I'll leave negative cable disconnected and try to get 12.7-12.9 charge.

After I get the LMC5 on I'll run it over to O'reilly or Autozone, and report back.

Now, I'll mention in the past say 6 weeks or so, I have had the service traction control and abs messages pop up 2 different times after starting the car.

I checked codes and found nothing except for the O2 sensor code.

Would weak battery make those messages appear?

I kept charging battery and got it to 12.9 volts last night, battery out of car.

Today it tested 12.5.

I exchanged it at Costco, apparently they don't have a tester for side mount batteries, actually I don't think they test any batteries but tell each customer that the tester for whatever battery they bring in, they don't currently have.

Got new battery home, sticker says 7/18 so made this month, I tested it, 12.6 volts.

Should I put it on a slow charge?

Part's came in the mail yesterday, there was a delay getting here, but anyways I put it on today.

I didn't do the brown wire mod yet, the instructions warn to hold off and only do that if you have issues.

Should I just go ahead and do it?

I have only started it and pulled out of garage and onto driveway, and drove forward 2 times going over 3mph, need to test some more, but it's hot out there.

Technically this could just be my break, as I'm cooling off inside.

It's not the hottest it could be for summer, but it's humid (for Phoenix area) and it makes it so much worse, never been to Florida but I hear their summers are even worse from people who have lived there and here, as it's not as hot, but more humid.
