I sure hope this device comes with some damn simple instructions. Reading some of your posts is making me think I may need to call a NASA engineer in to help tune the computer! :D YIKES!
Installed it on my sons 2001 Transam and had to take out the perf. tuning due to eng. knock. Also installed there 160 stat and 93 oct gas. Still had eng knock. Must be nice to be able to sell a product for $300.00+ and it does NOT work..
Re: Hypertech reprogrammer...real results??? (Bill C)
Ok the jury is now in. I installed the Hypertech program last night. I skipped the "power" program due to my past Hypertech experience with spark knock. I think you must need aviation fuel for that piece of the program to be effective. I did not need to change the rev limiter, top speed limiter or shift points (didn't change gears or wheel size and don't want to damage the engine) but did implement their "optimum" 195 degree fan cut off/on setting. The main reason I decided to buy it was for the shift firmness programming. This part of the program DOES work. The transmission shifts immediately to the next gear. What that's worth on a track, who knows  Overall I would say that this is a pretty easy way to firm up your transmission shifts without having to go into the transmission with a kit. If you change rear end gears or wheel size the unit could have some value there as well but I didn't need it. I wish they marketed a cheaper version that only addressed the transmission for about $100. That would be a major seller! As it is I pissed away the other $230 that the unit cost. Thanks to everyone who posted on this topic.
Also, to anyone who decides to use one of these things in the future...when they tell you to make sure you have a FULLY charged battery, they are not B.S.ing. I first programmed the shifts at 75% firmness and the download process killed my battery dead. After a 30 minute charge I went out and tested it and decided to max the shift settings to 100%. This time I left the damn charger running the whole time, although they said not to do that (don't know why). Any way it didn't kill the battery the second time I downloaded the program and all seems fine.
Well, it changed my gears to 3:42 and WORDED, as well as tire height. Did firm the Tranny, changed my shift points, and removed my top speed limiter. So if you have an auto, and depending on what you need done, it is worth it. I also put the power programing back after I lost 2MPH in my ET, which I got back, and get no knocks on 92 octane with my 98??
Curt, you should be shifting at about 6000 rpm at WOT. Adjusting those shift points along with a firmness increase does make a big difference. The car is deeper into the power band after a WOT shift. Also, if you have any issues with WOT downshifts between 30-35 and 70-75 not always dropping down to the lowest gear it should (all A4s seem to have this issue) you will cure that problem.
I also just jumper in a second battery whenever I program. No running low on voltage when I do that, as current capacity is doubled.
I'm really happy with my Hypertech.

Ed, I think I am shifting pretty close to 6000 now with the factory setting. I'll pay closer attention next time I get into it. The shift point section of the program seemed like a real opportunity to screw up and get into your rev limiter when I was reading the instrunction guide. I guess I just chickened out and didn't want to mess the car up and not be able to correct it. Is it pretty easy to bump up the shift point? Does it only effect WOT shifts?
I tuned the shift points, initially +1:1-2 & +2:2-3, & raised the rev limiter to 6000. 6000 proved to be too low...so I reset to 6100.
I now stand corrected. The programmer can effect a significant change in WOT shift points. This feels like a different car, it's that much of a change.
Anyone know where the rev limiter's max safe setting would be?

Dave, the factory setting on the rev limiter is 6200 rpm. Tuners such as Powerloader raised that setting to 6400 rpm. Personally, I believe 6300 rpm should do it. As I understand it, there's really not vast amounts to be gained by going really high in the rev band (6500-6600rpm), and damage may be caused. That rev limiter is there for a reason, and that's to protect your engine.
The shift points on my car were too low with the stock settings which is why I calculated out what mph increases would put me at approximately 6000 rpm on each shift (the rpm/mph numbers are in the Hypertech manual). +2 mph for the 1-2 shift and +5 mph for the 2-3 shift was almost perfect. I may even go to +6 mph on the 2-3.

OK, this weekend I plugged the old Hypertech back in. I took Ed's advice and moved my rev limiter up to 6400 and reset my shift points as follows: 1-2 + 2, 2-3 + 4, 3-4 + 2. I am now shifting right at the 6000 red line where as with the factory settings I was shifting at 5800. I am hunting mustangs now! :boxing :D :D
Thanks to everyone who posted advice on this thread.
I used the power programming and found greatest benefit was a noticeable increase in low rpm torque with little increase at WOT. Very slight detonation usuing good old Amoco Ultimate!
