I recently picked up a set of CC wide body rear fenders and want to know what's involved in getting my stock Z06 wheels pushed out to look good when the fenders are installed. Is it just a spacer that goes in behind the wheels?
There are two types of spacers. The first type is just a piece of a particular thickness utilizing the existing lugs to push the wheel out. Depending on how thick the spacer is you may need to either buy longer lugs or install an adapter-type spacer. The later type will have it's own set of additional lugs to install the wheel. It also typically adds a little extra unsprung weight over a long-lugged spacer.
In about a year and around 6,000 miles....5 cracked wheels on my 17 GS.
Just for context, NEVER drive in any other mode but Tour, had the optional mag ride software update early on, replaced the OEM tires with the AS3 tires early on. Never hit any notable pot holes.
The roads are crappy here in MI, however I have been driving the same roads for over 30 years with many different cars, mostly sport cars including Gen 5 & 6 Camaro's & a C7 Stingray for a year and have had ZERO damaged wheels outside of the C7 GS in my life. Zero.
I was one who had read about wheel problems before I bought my GS and I thought that it was probably just overly magnified, I was wrong.
