TCS Issues code: TCS c1295 H C "brake lamp switch open"
code: TCS c1295 H C "brake lamp switch open"
Started when I approve wrong size tires for my car at tires plus. Got the car back with these issues. Correct tires, OEM sizing, are on the car now. This is a major issue because I can't drive a car without brake lights
What works, what doesn't & whats been checked:
1) Brake lights no longer work when pressing the brake pedal.
2) 3rd brake light does not come on under any circumstance (appears to be standard OEM)
3) Rear bulbs light up under the following conditions: hazards, turning on lights and using turn signals. (so all 4 lamps are good & MFS is good)
4) TCS light is on
5) Can't change traction control settings
6) ABS light is NOT on
7) DIC message service traction control and service active handling
8) ABS still works
list of things I've done thus far:
1) Replaced: brake light switch at the brake pedal yesterday 7/25 (old brake light switches seemed functional when I took them apart)
2) hazard switch replaced months ago
3) Disconnected battery
4) The second I clear the code it comes back. If I hold the brake pedal down and reset code it all goes away but returns the second I release the brake pedal
5) checked fuses in the passenger footwell #8 & #15 seemed fine
list of what I'm in the process of doing
1) replace passenger footwell fuses #8 & #15 anyways
2) charge the battery (replaced a year ago seems fine but why not)
I've heard EBCM could be the issue (looks stupid expensive) will attempt solder fix if all else fails
grounds(seem fine)
I don't suspect water damage, all dry
Any advice is appreciated
here's a quick video I just made last night before completion of everything listed above.
SOLUTION FOUND (awhile back forgot to share findings)
1) Looked through wiring diagram and saw that the 3rd brake lamp bypasses the hazard switch relay.
2) Used a multimeter to test output voltage at the 3rd brake lamp when the brake pedal was depressed and in starting position (no interference) the voltages should be 4-5V and battery voltage 14.1V, which they were. This meant the lamp assembly at the 3rd brake lamp had gone out.
3) Replaced 3rd brake lamp and now it works
4) Replaced hazard switch before going after turn signal assembly ($25 vs $250 part)
Issue resolved
Hope this helps anyone in a similar situation
