Eh, is it the Harbor Freight one? I have both that one and a low profile 3 ton. The little harbor freight 1.5 ton "racing" one is ok for a quick tire swap, but I really feel it struggling while lifting the entire front of the car. It also does not lift very high. The roller on the front of it is kinda shitty too. I'd go for the 2 ton aluminum one if you can.
The Harbor Freight "racing jacks" are a quick lift design compared to a traditional floor jack - so, more effort to lift the car, and less control when lowering it.
The HF 1.5 ton jack is a nice product, I've had one for years and used it heavily, including for its stated purpose--taking to and from the track, and it still works great. However, it will not fit under the C5 front air dam unless the car is up on some ramps. It doesn't take much; I made a simple pair of ramps from 1x10 boards screwed together. Three of them (a little under 3" lift) is enough to raise the front end high enough to get the jack under the crossmember.
i have both jack stands and steel ramps. In fact the front is up on ramps as i type while i remove and clean the radiator. E-brake is set, in 1st gear and the rear wheels chocked.
I cut some 2x10s as an approach (to clear the air dam) to Rino Ramps and drive up the front then jack the back with my 1.5 ton HF jack and put a couple stands under the rear. The 2 ton does look beefier and I'm sure it is but the 1.5 works fine.
