I have a 2002 Z06 and Im having ABS alarms on and off as I drive. Alarm page ( TCS) says I have C1282, 87, 88H in history.
I had the ABS module fixed, and now thinking the steering sensor is bad.
Question. Can I just unplug the old one and plug in a new sensor and just tie wrap it under the steering wheel column without installing it?
Would the ABS alarm go off or create more alarms not truely installed?
I had to have the SWPS changed out in my 03 vert. It ain't cheap but it fixed it.
The sensor is available for around 100 bucks. I found a local mechanic to put it in for 400. Dealer wanted 700 for the labor only.
It's easier to pull the steering column to install the sensor but I am too old and too fat to do it.
If you are young and limber you can do it. Lots of info about it online.
Good Luck!
It's not to bad to replace. Takes about 2.5 to 3 hours to do. The part # is 88965543 and they can be found for around $70. There is a write up on the procedure here on the forum.
I ordered mine sws online for about $70.00 and the local dealership charged me $79.00 to replace it. DGrant had talked about on the forum a couple of years ago and I think that was money well spent.

Wow! You have one heck of a dealer!!
Two local dealers wanted around $120 for the sensor and $625 at one and $700 at the other for installing mine.
I paid $95 plus shipping for the sensor at GMpartshouse online and found a local Corvette mechanic $400 to install it.
You really got a good deal!
