I changed mine when I swapped out my base suspension sway bars for Z06 bars. They are definitely stronger but I am not sure that would be of much value unless you are autcrossing. They are better looking and only cost about 15$ each, so I just did it.

Re: Sway bar links (alc2001)
Are you sure that you have those end links on right? If that's a pic of the front bar, they look like they are touching the steering bar. When I removed my front Z51 end links and installed the new bar links the bottom nut on the front bar was pointing out with the nut on the front of the lower tab and the top end link nut was pointing in towards the shock with the nut rearward of the swaybar.
Paul,
Don't scare me like that! Actually this is the rear and I just checked the service manual and it's ok. Whew. When I was putting the front on, I did hook up the first side backwards before I caught myself. :seeya

This photo shows why the plastic links are junk, and if in a hard manuver situation on the road down-right dangerous. The plastic ones will buckle and fold (see how these look like they are misshappen?) causeing a violent side to side swaying that perpetuates itself until they hold again so the sway bar can do it's job.
It happened to me twice while passing and haveing to turn quicker than I expected....and took a bit of examining to figure out what happened. It appears that under a heavy cornering load when it folds it unloads and then as you bounce back the other way it folds that link, and vice/versa.
Metal links prevents that!
Bear in mind that I do NOT have AH, only traction control.
I don't know where GM got the idea to put plastic end-links on these cars but I personally wouldn't trust them if I was doing any hard cornering. I guess they had to save like 50 cents a peice to mold them out of plastic. We offer the Heim end-link set for $139.95 which will increase the affectiveness of the sway-bars if your interested. :seeya
