Has anyone swapped the differential without removing the entire drive train? I need to replace the differential in my 01, and would rather not have to go through teh grief of removing the entire drive train. Wondering if there is enough room to disconnect the suspension, lower the assembly, and just swap the diff.
Just finished doing a diff swap on a 99 FRC about a week and a half ago.
You have to remove the rear cradle, H-pipe and tunnel plate. A transmission jack will need to be used. The diff and trans will have to be tilted down to clear the bottom of the tub. Be careful of the brake lines, they will get caught on the back of the diff . There are several electrical harnesses to be careful of also along with a couple of harnesses and connectors to disconnect from the trans and diff.
Yes......... As Silver C5 said. You can lower the entire drive line just enough to pull the rear end off the tranny. Do a search, I read it a few years ago before I did mine. The OP I believe was from a guy named Dope. Good luck it not a big deal..
