Just had the same embarrassing problem. Try this - push down on cap and rotate left one full turn [ mine gets hard to turn after about 1/2 a rotation] then pull up from the six o'clock [bottom] edge. It should come off.

I've had a few C5s and you're right -- some of them are a PIA to get off . . .you have to twist, push, turn or pry them off . . . . might help to put a finger full of lube around the outside when putting it back on . . .
