Default Katech tensioner question

So a few months ago I put on a manual katech tensioner on my LS1 as I was also changing out the main belt and pulley.
a couple days ago I put on a new water pump. While I was tearing down for the water pump install I had the worst time getting the damn belt off. The Katech tensioner pretty much seems to install at the furthest slack position which leaves the belt fully tightened at all times. I ended up just taking the water pump off to provide slack enough to remove the belts. (Good thing that was my goal anyways)

my question is this: to those of you with Katech tensioners, how do you get the belt off/on? are you using a slightly longer belt or something?

if it is maxed out and you have no room to loosen the belt enough to get it off you could try a longer belt... what size is your current belt?... go the next size up and see how it fits

No idea, I’ve only had the car 4 months and don’t know what the standard belt length is.

its got a brand new continental belt on it, but I don’t recall how long it is. I guess I could shoot over to autozone and see if they can tell me how long the one I bought is, then see if they have one a couple inches longer.

i guess I knew the answer to my question, but I’d like to hear what others using a Katech have to say about it.

if you can read the part # you can find the length and then see what the next size up is... you can buy a few belts and take back the ones you don't end up using

Hmm, I’ve put about 1k miles on the car since I bought the belt. I don’t think the part # is visible any more. I’ll double check after work today, but I suspect they’ve been rubbed off by now. I don’t recall seeing them when I was working on it this past weekend, the numbers were very visible when I first installed it. Impossible to miss.
