I have an 01 - C5 automatic with, I believe, an issue with the anti theft system. I just replaced the battery and now when I try to start the car the alarm starts and the car will not turn over. The car will start when using the remote starter. I tried performing a system reset using the 10 minute reset, but the alarm starts when I put the key in the ON position. Any help would be appreciated.
I am new here so if I have posted in the incorrect forum, please let me know and I will rectify.

From what I am reading here you have an aftermarket alarm with remote start. I would start by removing that system completely and repairing any wire splices.
All of the cars I have looked at that have had some kind of aftermarket alarm were badly installed and causing problems. Many had improper wire splices that started causing failures years down the road.
If you do not have the ability to remove this find a shop that is knowledgeable to do the work. If you are in Southern California I would be willing to help.
Apologies folks. I've been out of town since my last post. So I tried to perform the diagnostic code retrieval, but as soon I had the key in the on position the alarm started. So my initial post was incorrect. The alarm starts at the ON position, not when I start the car.

Thank You Gary - It looks like I am going to have the car towed. Unfortunately, I am in Maryland, but I do appreciate the offer.
If you have a security system problem there will be codes set indicating that. Additionally the SECURITY light on the dash will remain illuminated when the key is left in the ON ( not the START) position.
Pull and post your codes.
If you have never pulled codes on your C5 here is how:
Post ALL the codes including the H or C or HC after each 5 character code. List the codes under the sensor they show with. ie 10 - PCM or 28 - TCS or 40 - BCM ..... etc .....
If any sensor(s) have NO COMM next to them post that also.
Many here can help you understand the meaning of the codes your car may have.
Thank You 8VETTE7 - I just noted below that the alarm starts when the key is moved into the on position and not when I attempt to start the car. So my initial post was incorrect. Apologies for starting with incorrect information.

Funny story...I bought a 94 that had an aftermarket alarm in it...one day after work in the parking lot at work, the alarm went off every time I turned the key and disabled the starter. It would not respond to anything. I ripped it out and discovered how bad the install was...they even hot wired the door locks so they stayed energized any time the alarm was set...they were burned up, had to replace them. I ended up staying at work for hours under the dash uninstalling it and fixing all the trash...here is a shot of what I pulled out:
Notice the speaker wire running to the relays...good stuff...

Quality craftmanship! Unfortunately I am not even a shade tree mechanic, so I need to get the car to a professional.
