Default Throttle Body Q's

What's the best way to tell if the throttle body is in need of cleaning and then what is the best way to clean it. I'm sure when you look inside there will be a certain amout of something that might be thought of as dirty, but does that mean it really needs to be cleaned. Or is the dirty part inside so far that it can't be seen?
Just need a little guidance here. Part of my weekend project list.

Are you sure you mean the throttle body or the intake manifold? The throttle body contains the butterfly valve and is immediately in front of the intake manifold. It would be relatively easy to take off and clean. The intake manifold will be more difficult because of its size. I would think that they should both be pretty clean though. The air filter is supposed to keep any dirt from getting that far into the engine. You could disconnect the air coupler and look inside it for dirt as a gage of what could be inside the manifold. I'm guessing you'll find only a very thin layer of dust. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.
