Hello, the turn signals work some times and some times they don't also sometimes when the cruise control is on and the turn signal for changing lanes is applied the cruise shuts off and have to hit the switch again seems like it does this when changing lanes to the right. This is a 2000 corvette
If it was the turn signals alone,I’d point at the hazard relay, but when combined with the cruise issue,I’d lean toward the stalk being the problem...
Thanks, researched this a little but no one has the turn signal issues. I thought it could be the multi function switch also, put one in my 2002 Wrangler (fog lights wouldn't turn off ) best I can remember it was like $30 and easy to install. The one for Vette is around $250 or more, whats up with that. If I buy one and after a week or two that is not the problem can it be returned? And if that is not the problem what else could it be? Should the hazard warning switch be replaced too?
Turn signals are routed through the hazard switch.
It is relatively common (lots of threads on it here) and Intermittent signals usually fixed by replacing the hazard switch.
I replaced mine earlier this year. PITA to get to though. Replacing it wont hurt, may fix the TS problem, but will not fix the cruise problem.
Not an expert by any means, so my simple logic is
The cruise has different routing once it’s signal hits the harness in the column. Since both functions fail at the same time, then the lowest common denominator is the stalk. Since it is only to the right, that implies eaither a bad contact or something loose in the stalk.
Considering the way the switch works...
Push and hold the button on the end is decrease speed until the button is releases, push and hold the slider is increase speed until released, slider to the left is off...so to disengage, you are going against gravity (since the control end of the stalk is slightly elevated..
.
Does the on-off slider switch click/lock into place, or does it free slide?
Long odds on operator error - like you are accidentally hitting the cruise off slider switch when you push the lever up to make the right turn? Or a ombination of operator method plus a loose switch - if the switch free slides instead of clicks into position, the way you hit the stalk pushes the slider into the off position
generally, electrical parts are not-returnable, but that depends on how much your supplier likes you.
