1999 C5 gets "steering column lock" message
my 1999 C5 starts fine and idles fine. has brand new battery. When I put the car in reverse or first gear, the car moves about 3-4 feet and then stalls. i receive a "column steering lock" message followed by a "pull key and wait 10 seconds" message. After doing this up to 6 times, the car then will run nicely. I bought a module and replaced under the passenger side under the glove box that was to solve the "steering column lock " problem. It worked great for about 2 years. Is it possible that this module needs to be replaced again or is there something else to look at? I have checked the 2 fuses related to this area and they are fine. I am not a mechanic, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I think an LMC5 is in your future. Do a search on the LMC5 either on the Forum or a Google search. It can be purchased at ….compliance parts at around $50.00 Contact Richard at Compliance Parts.....he will help you out.

my 03Z did this to me and I took it to the dealer to get the fix done on it. this seemed to be a common problem with c5 and c6's. The mechanic told me about the lmc5 that I could get from amazon. it works fine. every now and them I get the message but I just pull the key, jiggle the steering wheel and after 10 seconds, I'm good to go.
