headlight fix didnt work--2002 c5 convertible

So, an update, but not a good one.
I bought the replacement, $199, mounted it and the headlight lever won't fit onto the flats of the new motor shaft. The motor shaft is just a tad too large.
My car is a 2000 and I know that there was a headlight motor change from 1999 to 2000, so anyone know if they (GM) changed the shaft size slightly.
I don't want to order another one and have the same or a different problem. Maybe I have a 1999 headlight design in my 2000 car. (It was purchased, new, December 1999).
