Tranny temp effect A4 Lockup
I recently did a 3600 stall and cam in my A4 1998 Corvette. I also put the biggest tranny cooler you can buy as I have a 3.42 gear also. Car seems like it doesn’t want to lock up in 4 gear, but the other day I drove it a good amount of distance and got it nice and warm and it did lock up. I have HP Tuners and can command it to lockup with the scanner option so don’t think there is anything thing mechanical wrong. I did have it professionally dyno tuned but did the cooler after the tune. Thanks for any insight.

Are you running the trans fluid through the radiator 1st and external cooler 2nd? I've seen similar problems with people who run a stand alone cooler and bypass the radiator cooler entirely. The factory radiator cooler has 2 functions. It gets the trans fluid up to operating temp fast by using the radiator coolant to transfer heat, then it keeps the trans fluid in check by transferring heat back to the coolant which can dissipate heat through the radiator. It's basically a 2 way heat exchanger. If you bypass the factory cooler it will take alot longer to get the trans to operating temp and I believe there is a certain temp around 170 or so the trans needs to allow lock up. I have no experience with the 4L60E in the C5, but have dealt with plenty of them in other GM vehicles and have seen similar problems your having.
