C1287, C1288 SWPS error

C1287, C1288 SWPS error
2001 C5 base model coupe
I received errors with the old steering wheel angle(position) sensor.

The dash says service active handling.
B0446 - I think right vent actuator.
Installed new sensor and still have the same errors.
I don't even have to start it to cause the errors. I can clear the errors and a second later they pop up again.
Since the errors happen immediately with a new sensor, most likely a wiring problem?
Or maybe the new sensor needs to be reset to center?
I cleaned the 2 big ground harnesses in the engine bay last year but it was dark. Maybe I need to take them apart and check them again.
