I have a 2004 Z06 and want to replace the hood liner. I know there are fasteners but also glue, question is how do you remove the glue holding the liner. Thanks for your help. Jim
I don't believe the liner is glued as that would negate it's function. The purpose of the "liner" is a fire suppression blanket. The plastic plugs that hold it up have a lower melting point than the liner so in case of a fire they will melt first, dropping the liner onto the engine. You can find plenty of pics on Google of the aftermath of this function on both Corvettes and cars in general.
Your biggest hassle will potentially be re-using the plugs and honestly it may be better just to buy new ones. You can now find them fairly easy in your local parts store's "help" section. Typically they're Dorman branded style parts.
The general consensus on getting a new liner is this is one thing you will want to try and order through either a dealer or local supplier to mitigate or eliminate shipping cost. They are shipped in large flat boxes (the liner has to stay ridged and can't be compressed) which can make shipping very pricey to say a residence or business.

I just replaced the hood liner in my 2003 Z06 a few weeks ago. Mine had clips but no glue at all, and no remnants of any glue from the past. Perfectly smooth under the liner. If you haven't purchased a replacement liner yet, be prepared for sticker shock on shipping charges. I ultimately purchased my liner from a local Chevy dealer. Paid more for the liner itself, but since I ordered it on his regular parts weekly run, I paid nothing for shipping, so I came out better than ordering with shipping from an independent. Be careful with installation, kinda fragile. Easier with two people.
I already purchased a new liner along with the chrome plugs (didn't have the plastic plugs so I ordered), goes with the chrome corvette emblem. In the instructions for installing it says to use silicone glue to help hold it in place. So this afternoon will try and remove the old liner and install the new one.

The only reason I could fathom it would say to apply a glue is to assist with install. If you have someone to help hold the liner in place while you install the plugs then there is no reason to use a glue of any type and I would stay away from it.
