I know that there have been several forum members that have tackled gear and torque converter swaps. I am requesting that if you have any pictures or tech tips to please post them. I am going to be doing the swap next month, and pictures are worth a thousand works.
The only tutorials I have seen are by Mike Mercury, Corvette Fever magazine, and East Coast Transmissions. All are very good references. If there are any others out there please pass them along.

I changed my Y2K automatic from 2.73 to 3.42 using the instructions that Mike Mercury posted. Did not change my Torque Converter. It was fairly straightforward. I did this about 6 weeks ago. The only problem that I had was that the PCM needed to be reprogrammed to change the shift points. I have had the Diablo Predator on order since then. It is sitting in the UPS warehouse in Nashville. :cry Hope that it will be here in a day or two. Drop me an email if you want to know specifics.

There has been some talk about not having to even unbolt the torque tube from the engine when doing just a carrier swap.
If I was to do this again; I certainly would investigate the possibility that the engine/TT assembly could be swung (lowered) enough to pull the carrier off.
Mine as done at a GM dealer. They took off a plate that had like 20 bolts holding it on, but never did disconnect any drive line componants except the diff from the transmission.
When they stay connected the engine actually tips rear ward and comes very close to hitting the fire wall. You need to be extra careful that you do not "tilt" the transmission too low or you will do damage to the fire wall. It was necessary to disconnect the air bridge first as well.
While Idid not actually do the work, my nose was right in there watching and that was my observation.

It appears that East Coast Transmissions removed to differential carrier before removing the transmission. Check it out here... http://members.tripod.com/eastco/2001vett/
