Hello. I am hoping someone is familiar with a current problem with my 1999 C5 Corvette. I went on a 120 mile trip and heard a whining noise when ever I put my foot on the gas pedal. This was the longest drive I have had with my Vette. The noise stops when I take my foot off the gas pedal. I turned on the cruise control and still heard the noise. The windows were up and my wife and I thought at first it was a truck beside us blowing it's horn (The whining noise). I have talked to several mechanics who suggested it may be a rear end issue and have an appointment on November 19,2018. The Vette rattles (Shudders) some what when I put it in reverse. Is there anyone with information on this problem? I greatly appreciate the help.

It's tough to diagnose with out hearing it.
It could be anything from a bad idler pulley to a mechanical problem in the drive train.
Try putting the car in neutral and giving it some gas. If you hear the sound, it's likely the belt pulley system, or the harmonic balancer.
Physically look at the harmonic balancer with car car running if it wobbles that's likely it.

That mileage is pretty low for wear problems.....
My balancer died early at about 43k, but that shouldn't have a dang thing to do with putting it in reverse. Maybe something to do with the torque tube, which shouldn't be an issue at that mileage, do you know the history on previous services?
So where is this appointment? Not a chevy dealer? The dealer doesn't really have mechanics that understand C5s anymore. What you need is a review from someone who is familiar with technology from 20 years ago, and preferably corvette familiar at that.
So that said, auto or manual? Shudders in reverse, whines loudly anytime throttle is depressed. I see your going to follow up on Phanni's suggestion to check in nuetral -- the results will be interesting.
