Default C6 knuckles for brake conversion.

Hey all,
I've been a bit confused about something here. I have an 01 base and I'm planning on installing some 2012 grand sport big brakes on it. Is there a problem with the spindles meshing up? Has anyone used brakes from an 09 and up grand sport/z06 on their c5 without having to change the knuckles? Thanks in advance.

you don't have to change the spindles, the c5 spindles will work fine... the c6 will work as well, they are very similar but they have a little more meat in the area where the calipers bolt so they are probably stronger but for a street driven car that most likely won't matter

Gotcha, thanks neutron. I've been told that between 05-08 they were the same as the c5, but 09 and up were slightly different, especially where the mounting for the calipers is concerned, and so they might not fit. I have the brakes, rotors, and pads ready to go. I'm so excited.

The newer spindles are stronger. If it is a street car you should be fine but if you track the car I would look at upgrading to the newer spindles.

The new spindles are a bolt in swap, the changes are to the manufacturing process and a slightly shorter steering arm for quicker turn in. I have done the swap on my car and a friend's car. I also have a pro-touring friend who autoxes his old car regularly which is on C5 spindles who broke the ears off the spindle much like this one:

Well, I like where this all went. Glad I asked! Thanks all for your I put. I'm going to go ahead and use my stock ones for the time being. I have no plans to track it yet, mainly because of my crappy work schedule. Ultimately, I'm going to go ahead and switch to newer spindles. Last thing I want is to crash my baby.

When folks upgrade the front brakes to some form of a BBK and it is done for looks (wow factor) and the car is strictly street driven, most don't bother to upgrade to the C6 Z06/ZR1 spindles in the front #88965637 & 88965638. But if you do plan to run the car at the track and need the extra strength, you might as well also budget for the SKF X-tracker wheel bearing up front as well.

Good thinking. I will do that as soon as I get to that point. I want the car to stay in one piece when I drive it hard on the track. The brakes are on the car and I'm about to go on a test drive so pray for me, lol! I'm going to try and do a write up for it.
