I just noticed that the sides of my AC Delco battery in my C5 have a slight bulge to them. Should I be concerned about this? Get a new battery or is this normal???
Which brand of batteries work best with C5's, any recomendations?
I would replace it with a gel type battery (like an Optima Red Top) as quickly as possible.
The AC Delcos are notorious for leaking, and the very expensive and critical PCM is right underneath. You can have $5,000 worth of damage very quickly.
Hey Lawman don't hesitate on this one. I had :mad could have had $$$$$$$repairing the damage. Extended warranty :D The AC Gel is what the dealer has $115.00 installed here in Venice. :seeya
The bulge is somewhat normal for a flooded battey.espcially in warm climate. The poly material is so thin that the liquid causes the bulge.
The battery may have more life left but it would be better in another GM car where a possible leak would not do so much damage.
The glassmat VRLA batteries are sealed and do not lose their liquid contents. The popular choices in AGM are the Delco Platnim or Optima Spiral. They won't leak.
Some people suggest the gel design, but they do not work ot well in auto applications unless charging modifications are done.
