Default LS6 intake.... is it worth it?

For those that installed an LS6 intake, did you:

1. Install it on a stock to mildly stock LS1? If so, what kind of gains did you realize?

2. Did you install it on a heavily modded LS1? What kind of gains did you realize?

The reason I ask, is because I am planning on getting a H/C package, and have been thinking of doing the intake at the same time, as well as underdrive pulleys.

Would really appreciate some feedback on this.

TIA,

It is a worth while mod if you have a way to tune it.. i.e. MAFT/ Autotap or LS1-Edit..

Just sticking it on may give no gains at all.

I had one installed last week and my car feels like it can pull forever. :)

On a stock car like mine you will pick up very little, I changed mine more because the original intake was full of oil and cracked behind the throttle body.

If you are doing heads/cam by all means put one on, thats when the LS6 intake really shines..

...... :yesnod: Yup, very much worth it with a h/c pkg. I did mine with h/c, headers, ud pulley, 80mm TB so it is hard to say how much power I could see from the intake manifold. Most tuners will tell you by dyno experience about 15rwhp with what I mentioned above........

STOCK MANIFOLD ISN'T SO BAD

"The stock LS1 intake manifolds have a lot of things going for them," Agostino opines. "The injector 'line of sight' is aimed directly at the back of the intake valve. That does a great deal to keep the intake charge atomized, and reduces fuel puddling. Intake charge reversion is minimized with its long runners. This increases torque production at low rpm to some degree, but at the expense of higher rpm horsepower. It really is optimum for stock displacement engines and stroker motors like the 382s that are becoming so common."

not my words, but Agostinos, taken from an article in PHR Oct 00

TIA,
johnnyc5:

Here is my dyno sheet (actual and corrected were virtually the same -- had an absolutely "standard day"):

The car:

2000 C5 convertible with a Donaldson, stock air bridge and ribbed connector, BBK 80mm throttle body, LS6 intake, pre-cats remaining on stock exhaust (no headers), with an X-pipe and Corsa Indys. That's it.

I was expecting around 321 to 323 rwhp -- which is what most intake and catback cars seem to achieve, not 337 rwhp -- since the LS6 intake "doesn't contribute that much," and neither does the BBK.

Bottom line, the car picked up 40+ horsepower at the crank with these mods (that's 385 hp -- 2001 stock Z06 territory), backed up with three runs that varied by only 4 hp from high to low. Also immediately after my run, a bone stock 2002 Z06 put out 358 rear wheel and verified the dyno -- that equates to about 411 hp at the crank using a 15% driveline correction factor.

Decide what gains came from the Donaldson, X-pipe, BBK, and cat back Corsa exhaust.

The rest has to be from the LS6 intake.

Hope this helps. :smash:

Here you go. Heads/cam car with a before/after of the 2001+ intake manifold.

That sums up everything right there.

I dont have any dyno numbers, but i have track numbers. It decreased my time a little over a tenth and almost 2mph on a stock motor with mods in sig. Very worthwile mod

Here's my noobie post of the day. Does my '03 already have the LS6 intake? I remember reading somewhere the newer model C5's have the LS6 intake I think.

I say go for it, my 2000 hardtop pulled 344.4 rwhp and 350.2 rwtq, with just bolt ons and the Z06 intake manifold was one of those parts. I did no tuning for these numbers and no T. body. I have run a best of 12.11 @ 115.65 with the cats removed and 12.61 @ 111.67 with the cats on.
Godd luck.
