Hi all,
My 2000 c5 convertible (32,000.mi) has started making this weird crunching type sound when I put up driver side window. Not intermittent every-time. Loud enough that I think the window might break. It does seem to go all the way up and down, although I did notice a slight gap (1/8 inch X 1/4) gap at very top where side window meets convertible top near wind shield. I did treat the rubber at top of door that the window slides through (getting a little hard but still flexible) with 303 protectant thinking maybe resistance from harding rubber might be the problem. No luck. Although rubber now a little more flexible still makes that noise. Seems like the window regulator is still doing it's job getting the window all the way up and down.. Any thoughts/experience with similar problem and potential fix would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Kevin
I have the same year and mine made the same noise about two months ago, then it wouldn't go down on the odd occasion so new regulator/ motor and it's as quiet and smooth as it has ever been.
Thanks for the tip. Was hoping to avoid replacing reg and maybe just lube tracks or something as at least now it does go all the way up and down. But I guess if need to open it all up either way might as well replace and not have to do it again shortly.
Thanks.
Not as bad a job as I thought. The how to I saw has you taking the window switch out before taking the panel off. Wait until the panel is off and pop the window switch off then because my switch broke while trying to get it to pop off. I did break a couple of the posts putting the panel back on. Note just because 3 or 4 of them are lined up, don't assume they all are. I ordered a 12 pack of the posts, need to pull the panel off and replace those.
I just replaced mine as well. Wasn’t too bad. Ron - did you have to do any adjustments after putting the glass back in? My window sounds like it’s rubbing slightly. Not sure if putting the door panel back on will help since that does appear to tilt the glass more upright slightly.
Op:
I also has to buy new posts. I even had to buy this because two of the attachments on the door panel itself were already slightly broken. These work great: https://www.southerncarparts.com/199...SABEgKXiPD_BwE
unfortunately I even had to buy a new water proofing seal that’ll you see behind the door panel as it was completely disintegrated. Was about $36 on gm parts website.
