New to me 2000 C5 with 52k. I've had it a couple weeks now and love it. Last night I noticed a message on the DIC about removing the key and waiting 10 sec. I was just coming in from the garage so the key was removed and it sat overnight and I locked it with the remote.
This morning, when I tried the remote to unlock it, it wouldn't open. I opened the door with the key and the alarm went off. My remote wouldn't stop it, but my other remote did. And the other remote works fine.
I checked batteries in both remotes and they're fine (3v). I then noticed that the 2nd remote wouldn't work.
I went through the re-synch process and both remotes chirped the horn after 7 sec. And both remotes now work.
However, when I start the car, the display shows, "Service Column Lock" on the DIC. The steering when rotates so wondering what might be going on and if I can drive it.
Your key FOBs have nothing to do with column lock.
1) Have you read the column lock sticky here in the tech section? You need to.
2) Is the car automatic or manual transmission? (that's important, if you read the sticky)
3) Following (1) and (2) you will likely need to confirm presence of an aftermarket CLB (like the LMC5) and if one isn't present install one.
I've read the column. Thanks for pointing me to it. The car is a manual. I don't know if a LMC5 was installed but I do know that a recall was done on the car back in 2004 for "Electronic Column Lock System" (Product Safety Recall), Number N040006.

Just spoke with Richard at Compliance Parts. Super good guy. Walked me through everything and I have a LMC5 Module on it's way. This forum is already amazing!
Thanks so much!
Big thanks to Richard at Compliance Products for solving my issue. Called him on Sat. and received my LMC5 yesterday. Install was 20 min. max and it works like a charm.
