I have a 1999 C5 and I always have this fear one day I'm going to turn that key and find out my ECBM has gone kaput ! I've heard the horror stories of no replacements (unless you find a used one) and no repairs, am I sitting on a ticking time bomb? Is there any steps to take to prevent a failure ? I've been told to change the brake fluid periodically would help. Don't understand with so many 1997 thru 2000 C5 produced that there is no way to repair. Does anyone know if the ECMB goes out that it can be removed with a computer programmer ?
Tanks
My 98 Silverado has been out for about 15 years! Brakes work fine.. If the light bothers you, just put a piece of black tape over it. Whats wrong with doing smoky burnouts??
I think battery chargers are the number 1 killer of EBCM.
Interesting observation. Any data driving this conclusion? I’m O.K. so far, having charged the battery a considerable number of times, but have only used the one 6 amp charger.

Yes, I have replaced 2 EBCMs. Each one failed after recharging battery.. I know, I'm a slow learner. Thank goodness first one was under warranty

Are you referring to a battery trickle charger? Or a regular battery charger ? Trying to find anything that will help prolong the life of the ECBM. Thanks !
