Please don’t do the 18 minute hazard switch replacement.
My C5 hazard switch has been driving me crazy since I bought the car - loose and floppy, and I could not get it to latch in place no matter what technique I tried. Pulled the dash pad for other actions, and figured I could lock the switch in place while I’m in there.
Of course that assumed the latch portion of the center vent still existed. Mine does not, a previous owner apparently having followed step 5.5 and removing the original switch with a “sharp rap with a screwdriver”. I’m thinking 20 year old plastic doesn’t really care for sharp raps...
I dunno how anyone can get their hand in there to begin with I couldn't and I don't have particularly big hands....what part do you need? I have the dash pad and related stuff from my 99 all in good shape..I am in Pasco/Tarpon Springs area of FL
I swapped mine out using the “shortcut” method a few months ago. I basically had to dislocation my wrist to get it done and suffered several cuts on my forearms from jamming my arm behind the dash, but I did it! And managed to do so without breaking any clips or plastic. Knowing what I know, if I had to do it again, I’d just pull the dash apart the “right” way. Good luck with getting your situation sorted out!
I did that a couple of years ago to replace my switch, and other than some minor abrasions, scratches and scrapes on my left forearm, it wasn't that difficult. Thankfully I didn't break off any tabs, although I was worried about it.
Sometimes, a short cut or what seems to be the easy way to do it, isn't the best way, but if you get away with it, you're quite happy.
I don't know how it's done either. To get my old switch out of the housing took 2 hands with two screwdrivers pushing the locking tabs in, as it was totally jammed in there, and another person pushing the switch out.
I have done the 18 minute replacement on both my '99 and '00. No issues with either and not hard at all.

Every part of my car is more brittle today than it was just a couple of years ago. I imagine that's true for all of us.
