i have a 99 frc the ac doesnt seem to be cold till i drive for 15 minutes, looked for outside ambient sensor, doesnt seem to have one,...also it is an intermittent problem. could it be the cabin temp sensor, any help would be greatly appreciated. thanx in advance.
Might be a little low on freon. Mine doesn't have that inside temp sensor either as I have the manual climate control. My '98 does the same thing also when it gets low as it has an AC compressor that leaks from the seams so I refill it once in a while. I'm going to replace it soon.
The ambient temp sensor can cause the AC not to work. If the reading is very low (40 degrees), it will cause the AC compressor not to engage. If that is your case, you can unplug the ambient temp sensor and the display will default to 69.
To locate the sensor, raise the hood and look in front of the pass side headlight, way down to the bottom of the front bumper. There is only one wire going down there and it's attached to the sensor. It's a pleasure to remove. The wire is very common to corrode and the pig tail can be purchased online for 15 bucks or so.
If the sensor is not the problem, you could have a low charge, clogged orfice tube, weak compressor.....It's impossible to say without hooking up gauges and seeing the pressures.
