I posted recently about my auto 1999 C5 that had a transmission failure that subsequently damaged the engine. I towed it to a mechanic yesterday, and he called up today and stated that while he was certain my transmission needed to be rebuilt, my motor needed to be replaced as well due to a spun rod bearing. Should I attempt and have somebody repair the vehicle, or should I try and sell the car entirely? What could I possibly get for the car, assuming everything else is in fine shape?
I would at the very least take it to a second mechanic and verify that you do have a spun bearing, how was this determined, loss of oil pressure, knocking sound, or was the pan dropped for a visual check and then decide what you should do. Good Luck
My question would be how much is it going to cost to get it all fixed up.
Rebuilt engine and trans then decide if you still want the car with a new engine and new trans.
Anything else wrong with it?
It could last you a long time and you would know what you had.
Just my thoughts.
Good luck!
I agree get a second opinion-----I can't understand how a spun rod bearing can tost an auto trans
Or vice-versa......I quickly read the OP, yesterday, and thought the same thing. Sounds like a "half-assed mechanic", or somebody trying to pick your pocket.
