2000 Auto transmission problems
Hope everyone has a great 2019.
Now onto my issue of concern. My Vette has problems with the 1-2 shift, and seems like sometimes the 2-3 shift as well. The trans will many times not want to shift out of first gear until the RPM's are very high, whether i am getting on it, or just leaving the line normally. When it does, it will many times chirp the tires if I am getting on it, and the same thing with the 2-3 shift. It will shift hard, but it just seems to take forever to decide to shift. I have tried leaving the car in drive, and also manually shifting from 1 to 2 and 2 to 3 to see if it would respond differently. No success. Does anyone have any idea as to what may be causing this? It has been doing this since I purchased the car about a year or two ago. it's my weekend driver, so it doesn't get a lot of use, but this needs to be corrected as I am certain there is an issue in there somewhere.

I think I may be having to go this route. Already talking with some folks about picking up a low mileage trans. Getting some scan testing next week, and will see if the trans thinks it's shifting, but is actually holding on to the gear.
Before installing the new filter make sure it does not leak air when under slight vacuum.
Following is a brief wright up I put together some time ago on changing A4 fluid:=left
=left
After replacing the filter and bolting the pan back up, fill with new fluid to the drain/ check level plug hole. Then start the engine and leave it running with the transmission in PARK. =left
=left
Immediately add fluid through the drain/ check level plug hole until fluid flows out of the plug hole. It may take as much as another couple of quarts.=left
=left
With your foot holding the brakes, cycle the transmission through all the gears, then back to PARK.=left
=left
Go back underneath and make sure that fluid is still dribbling out of the fill/ check level plug hole. You might have to add some.=left
=left
With the engine still running and the transmission in PARK, monitor transmission temperature on the DIC. When transmission temperature rises to 122 F, put the plug in the fill/ Check level hole. Keep a pan under the hole, fluid will dribble out as the transmission temperature rises.=left
=left
Do NOT shut the engine down until the plug is in the fill/ check level hole. If you do, HOT fluid will gush out and the transmission will be low on fluid.=left
=left
I recommend full synthetic fluid.=left
=left
Keep in mind that the above procedure drains about half the fluid in the A4. The other half is in the torque converter and other works.=left
=left
You will need a small hand pump to pump the fluid into the fill/ check level hole
