Hello All,
I need some help or advise on locating a magnet to reprogram my tire pressure monitoring unit. GM says it should be one with a hole in center ( to fit over valve stem ) and I need to know where I can find one. I've tried with a square, round, flat and straight ones and they don't seem to do the trick. Am I doing something wrong or is the mag. with the hole the reason. I don't know where to locate the one I need. Any help or advise would be appreciated.
You can make your own TPMS magnet very easily, from a trip to your home improvement box store. For the one I made, I used a foam block, two pieces of 7/16 inch OD X 5/16 inch ID plastic tubing (water supply line tubing) and two strong pellet magnets, (Ceramic Industrial Magnets for Hobbies Crafts) which you can fine on the WebWorks every time! As long as you have the GM OEM sensors and NOT aftermarket sensors.Cheers,
I've used different types of magnets but most were problematic trying to program the tire pressure monitors. Then I bought one of these on the net. This is by far the best magnet I've found. Google Tire Pressure Magnet and you'll find many sources. They run about $20.00.
TB,
Thank's, that's just what I'm looking for. Going to order one tonight. I new this forum would come through. If all else fails, this is the place to go for the answer. Thank's
Go to harbor freight. Buy one of the little bowls that are meant to hold your screws while working on your car. ( bout 5.00) They have a strong magnet glued to the bottom. It has a hole in the center. Slip it around the valve stem to pair up. I did my new wheels n sensors first try.
Fat boy,
Thank's. At that price how can you go wrong.
You guys are all great on this forum. When you need help, you get a truck load of advise.
Thank's to all of you!
WC,
As I mentioned in my op, I tried a number of mags without hole and couldn't get it to work. I could have been doing it wrong although I don't know how that would be posable . I do have one coming now and see if I have better luck. Fortunately it's not a critical issue so I can stumble through it.
Thank's
I pulled two out of a broken microwave -very strong magnets, but I had problems with the aftermarket sensors. Replaced them with Delco and all worked as designed.
One thing I ought to mention is that some aftermarket wheels can make it harder to get the sensors to respond..

This is what I used after trying several other shapes and sizes. It works! May take several attempts before you get the beep, particularly on the rear wheels but it gets the job done.
