Default new clutch kit question

I have just bought a clutch kit, I have noticed a green paint mark on the pressure plate and a green mark on the flywheel. now are these two marks supposed to line up when installed? as of now doing a dry run putting together assembly to line up with the dowel pins the marks are 6 inches off .

Did you purchase the flywheel and pressure plate as an assembly? If you did, the manufacturer should have zero balanced everything as an assembly. It would be critical that the two components go back together the exact same way they arrived in the packaging. Otherwise you’ll significantly increase the risk of driveline vibrations.

Many folks take it one step further and have their new clutch assembly match balanced to the assembly they removed from the car because of a hot balance process followed by GM. Some assemblies were balanced out of zero during final driveline testing at the factory to account for vibrations. The c5 drivetrain is inherently sensitive to vibrations because of the design. Essentially, the torque tube acts like a big tuning fork. Use the search tool if you want more info on this. There are a ton of old threads on it.

I digress, my point is, however those paint marks were lined up when you unboxed the clutch is how it must go back together. They may or may not have any significance when it comes to the alignment of the two assemblies (pressure plate and flywheel). Best of luck with the install!
