I have a 2002 base coupe (6-speed). Trying to determine if this is a starter/solenoid issue. Vette starts first time when cold. Sometimes after driving and stopping when turning the ignition switch nothing happens no click or anything. After letting it sit a while then it starts. Ignition switch has been replaced about a year ago. Checked battery 12.6 volts. Any thoughts? Thanks for any help.
Most likely a starter/solenoid issue, but to make sure it is a starter/solenoid issue, connect DMM to switch terminal on solenoid and ground, and verify if 12 volts is present by having someone try to start the car when it does not want to start.
If you don't hear it "click" it sounds like "maybe" the solenoid but you should still check both sides (feed and control) of the starter circuit....think the signal wire power is missing... You should make sure all the positive and negative battery terminals are CLEAN and TIGHT at BOTH ends first...If you have a 12 volt test light connect it to a CLEAN ground and touch the tip of the test light to the battery "B" terminal STUD end (not of the terminal)....light will come on and then try to crank the car...the light should REMAIN lit !!....now touch the tip of the test light to end the "S' terminal stud (purple wire)..light should come on and STAY on while cranking...now connect test light to the NEGATIVE post of the battery....touch the tip of the test light to the starter housing while CRANKING...light should NOT come on if the ground is good...there are many many ways to check the circuit...this works for me....now you can also jumper across the 2 larger studs on the starter directly and see if the starter spins...just make sure you are in neutral with E brake on !!
If the test light does NOT come on while cranking on the Purple wire you basically have to work your way back through the circuit to find out where you are losing the juice !!...enclosed is the starter wiring for an 2002 !!
