I have a C5 2004 Corvette and the fuel gauge is not working. It was working before, I filled up with fuel and after I turned on the Vette it stopped working. Now its showing low fuel, Can anyone help me troubleshoot the problem
Have you driven it a bit since? If it's like mine, it only happens when I completely fill the tank, and self corrects after a couple drives.
P.S. many fix their sticking gas gauge with a few bottles of Techron. I only use Chevron 94 ethanol free with Techron. And the only time it happens to mine is if I fill right up.
I just bought it today and the lot I bought it from did not run it much, but the gauge was working before I filled up. I will buy the Techron Plus and see if that will work. Thank You Sir.
If you look here on this forum you will find many posts for this problem. High sulfur content in cheap gas is the problem. Techron or Seafoam (not both at the same time) added to the tank when about half full and then filling with 93 octane gas should resolve the problem, May take several tankfulls to dissolve the sulfur. Search here for other posts.

I've asked this before, and maybe will again... are you able to explain my problem then?
For 5 years I have run nothing but 94 octane Chevron with Techron, ethanol free. Yet every time I fill completely the gauge goes to 0 for a couple starts. After that it's fine for good, and never does it if I only fill below complete.
Thoughts?
Pull any codes from the DIC when the gauge is reading empty after a fill-up; if the computer is receiving different fuel level readings from each tank and setting the gauge to empty, there will be a code set. I can't remember which one it is, but it's probably either P0461, P0462 or P0463. If there's a "C" or an "HC" after the code, clear that code; that should restore the gauge to functioning. Seafoam and/or Techron usually will fix the sulphur issue, but the typical symptom for that is for the gauge to work until it's between 1/2 and 3/4, then drop to empty - usually while you're driving and not just a start-up.
When I lived in CA 91 octane was the highest octane available in my area and my c5 would have the same issue you describe. I always used Chevron but it was only 91 octane. Believe it or not, when I would park on a hill to allow the fuel to settle forward in my tanks the gas gauge would rise again and the floats would indicate the appropriate fuel level. This would happen intermitently for years.
Now I've lived in NJ where 93 octane is readily available and I haven't had a sticking float issue in over 12 years.
