Hello
I have a 99 Base C5 with approx. 122K miles on it. Was running great till recently. Starts up nice and idles smooth and still getting about 26 m.p.g. Problem is if you nail it from a stand still or to pass someone on the road it stutters and coughs has backfired and then it dies.. It starts back up with no problem and goes fine till you put your foot in it and dies again.
I have a friend who works for a Chevy Dealer and he brought home his scanner and says no codes are present and that all numbers look good(fuel pressure timing firing etc.)
We replaced the fuel filter and the plugs and wires with Genuine GM Parts and it still has issues.
Anybody have any thoughts what to try next?
I’d try cleaning your MAF sensor first...surprised a dealer tech couldn’t diagnose this with a scan tool...you’d be looking at “positive” fuel trim numbers under load...looking at fuel “volume” and not just pressure will give a somewhat accurate health of the fuel pump... once again looking at positive fuel trim numbers under load helps in the diagnosis !!
