In process of teardown and was going to replace axle seals and diff covers. Pulled the passenger side cover and I can jiggle the inner assembly. Is this normal? Is something worn out? Everything looks fine the gears just move around about 2” if you shake. Trans is still attacched. Both axle shafts removed. See pic
not sure what your referring to BUT !!! I will bet your bellville washers have broken and your clutch packs shot ??? what did the fluid look like ??? silvery ???
Like in the first picture if I grab that assembly with the shaft, it moves around. The fluid was so nasty. Likely never changed. Blackish/brown. Goopy
That movement is absolutely normal. Since the passenger side cover supports that bearing on the spool, which you have removed, will move around as the spool is now only being supported by the bearing in the differential housing.
