C5 Gauges Working Intermittently
Just joined this forum, really stumped with this issue and hope someone might be able to help. I bought this 1999 C5 last month and at the time the digital readings (odometer etc) and the cluster buttons weren’t working, but all gauges were. Today I installed a new (used) cluster and everything appeared to work. After driving a little, half of my gauges went crazy. Some went dead (no oil pressure, no fuel, etc), the thermostat went all the way up, and the airbag and abs light came on along with a delightful “reduced engine power” alert. After about a minute everything returned to normal. And this kept occurring on and off. I figured must have been a loose connection with the cluster wires. I played with the wiring multiple times but the same thing happened. I ended up trying out another cluster and had the same exact issue! So that means that the cluster itself is not at fault for this whacky intermittent gauge problem. I was thinking maybe the connector that plugs into the cluster is at fault, and I’m currently debating asking my mechanic if he can rewire it and add a new plug. I am quite stumped here, any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
