I have a quick question. I have the c6z06 shafts and motive gear R10RVLMKT bearing kit for the upgrade. If I replace the bearings do I have to reset pinion and side to side clearance?
I am living in Korea and finding someone with the tools to do this is impossible. I cannot have an upgraded diff sent here due to shipping limitations on base.
Thats weird, your right. So its a link from the DIY stickey at the top. You have to go to Bill Curlees List of Essential C5 repairs, then find the C6 to C5 gut transplant page.
Then I wonder how much a packaged diff weighs? I have a 70 lb shipping limit on base at my mail room. Mine has been whining during light acceleration for about 9 months now. I changed the fluid in prep for some drag racing here on Sunday, was black and glittering like a My Little Pony character. When I talked to some Korean corvette owners here they say there is a guy that specializes in corvettes and he can do it. However I just want to use his tools, if I can set clearances on a jet engine and propeller assemblies, I'm pretty sure I can rebuild a differential, just need tools and tech data, got tech data just no tooling. I don't want to buy all the tools just for one use. We have dial indicators and depth gauges at work maybe I can cobble something together.

Hello, just to replace the pinion bearings and set the drag torque on the pinion bearings you will need special tools... You could possibly replace the spool bearings with standard shop tools but to replace the spool bearing races, you will need special tools...
Without special tools, you can swap out the clutches/spring washers and your c6z06 shafts out put shafts...Upon opening the diff side cover and removing the spool, you will be able to perform a detailed visual inspection on the spool bearings and races and if the bearing are "not broken-then don't fix them". For the pinion bearings, you can NOT perform detailed visual inspection on the bearings and races unless you disassemble to pinion (special tool required). At best for the pinion bearing health, you can check the drag torque to see if it is "in-service" limits, but you will need the pinion tool socket for this task.
Just search my CF name for my postings on diff's.

I found both tool kits for c5 diffs on ebay. Both are complete. J44616 for 275 and j42618 for 100. I have dial indicator access through work, aircraft maintenance. The only tool I don't have is the holding fixture with the handle. Do I really need it?

The holding fixture servers two purposes, you can get away without using it to disassemble the diff, but it fixture is great a holding tool to split the spool and remove the ring gear and to hold the spool during torqueing of the ring gear/spool bolts...A few pics of my tool clamped in a bench vise.
