C6 Shifter Install Tip
Sorry of this has been posted before- but since some of these C5's are approaching 20 years old- it's possible/probable-
If you are installing a C6 shifter in a C5- suggested tip- in lieu of fighting with the evil shift control pin under the gear selector (which needs to be removed before the **** can be unscrewed)- don't fight it- buy a new lower boot- part number 10332368 for $26.99 from Gene at Cultrag- and leave the **** in place and remove the shifter, upper boot and lower boot in one piece. I researched the removal of this pin and was able to try several great ideas- WD-40, dual screwdrivers, paint can opener, beer can opener. If you are lucky and yours comes right out- great for you- I decided that fighting with the pin would only leave me tired, angry and possibly hurt.
I ordered a new leather upper boot from Redline along with a new steel shift boot bracket. The C6 shifter kit I oredered from Cultrag and went back today to order the lower boot in lieu of fighting with the pin and **** of the C5 shifter. This way if I ever want to go back to the original shifter- it's an easy swap and change.
So- save your favorite opener for what it's supposed to open- happiness at the end of the day- spend the $26.99 and take the easy way out.
