Default blu-c5 and cassette player

I bought a 2003 C5 'vert a couple of months ago and I'm gradually going through it fixing the stuff that doesn't work.

Lately it has been the CD changer/blu-C5 unit. The original CD changer that came with the car (Pioneer) didn't work. No cartridge eject and no CD indication on the head unit.
I replaced the changer with one (Delco) that ejected the cartridge but otherwise unknown functionality. Still no indication of a CD showed up on the head unit. I decided to try
the blu-C5. I installed it according to the instructions. The blue light on the blu-C5 comes on and I can pair it with my phone. Still no indication of a CD on the head unit.
at this point I noticed that the "Tape/Aux" button on the head unit didn't feel right. It didn't feel like it was activating the switch behind the button. Today I replaced the head unit.
Still no indication of a CD on the information panel of the head unit from either the Delco CD changer or the blu-C5 unit. The connector in the trunk appears in good shape. There is
12V on the green wire. The head unit is the cassette version.

Any ideas?

Maybe the harness between radio and changer has a pinch or broken wire-- (the data/bus wire?).
