I am going to get the GM service manuals for the 99-C5, but I wanted to know what type of info is in them. Like I will be installing new rotors, pads and possibly stainless lines. What would the manual provide me with to aid my removal and install?
That is an example and I am a novice (I can take stuff apart:rolleyes:)). I am interested in doing some mods myself, most likely be centered in the brake and suspension area.
Are there just part numbers and torque specs in there? I need/want the torque specs and for that alone it seems the $109 is worth it rather than having to do a search on the forum hoping to find the particualr torque I need.
Any insight or additional materail sugestions would be appreciated. Thanks
Re: Service Manual-How much info in them? (thegypsie)
The service manuals will be a big help. They tell just about everything you ever wanted to know or will want to know about your C5. I have also found that Haynes and the other manuals often times have additional information that aren't in the factory manuals or at least different ways or persepctives on the subject. I don't think you'll be disappointed with them. I had a set with our 90 and I've already ordered a set for our new 03 AE Vert. Good luck with your repair/replacements.
Bill :) :)

Land,
I wouldn't own a car without the service manual. Some of the most valuable info is on the electronics and DTC diagnostics. You will find all the torque specs and step by step remove/install procedures with important cautions such as non-reusable bolts. Unfortunately there are no part numbers. Definitely a worthwhile investment, IMHO. :yesnod:

I too get factory service manuals for my cars. They have everything you want to know. They also have complete trouble shooting trees, on what to check after you get the DIC code(s).
If you intend to work on the car yourself, you need the manuals.

Have been getting service manuals since my first car - a '52 Hudson. Besides telling yoy how to do things, an even more important part is warning you when a job is way over your head. Hate to admit it, but some thing are just done better at a Chevrolet dealer that services Corvetts on a regular basis.
One of the best investments you can make. Allows you to go the the dealer with intelligent questions and lets you know when you don't or shouldn't attempt something yourself.

More picture than words. On these Corvettes - there is an order to how things need to be taken off and put back on. If you follow the book and keep to the order - things go easy. If you try some other order - most likely you will break something.
