I'll be replacing my stock fuel pump in my '97 C5 with the Racetronix replacement. Just realized that I should get a gasket for the sending unit too, and saw some helpful posts about the part number, including the original ACDelco parts (the G4 gasket for '97-'99, and G25 for '00 - '03).
[QUOTE=neutron82;1599137015]fwiw I have reused mine 3-4 times along with the bolts and never had a leak[/QUOTE
Nice...when unbolted my fuel pump to put on the LPE the gasket was literally in two pieces...luckily I had a new one ready...I did not get breakaway bolts with my stock g4 gasket so I guess gm switched to standard bolts somewhere along the line
I have never encountered the breakaway bolts but I have seen members post about them on here, what a stupid design lol
I agree...when I had my fuel sender replaced under warranty years ago I had breakaway bolts installed. Made it to the gas station and the darn thing leaked anyway with those stupid bolts...back the dealer I went..
What might be your reasoning for swapping pump out? I'm looking into swapping mine but I have a problem with fuel pressure leaking down in an 02 with LS2/3 combo. Pressure goes to Zero seconds after system goes key on engine off or engine running then key off. System will maintain 58psi till about 5000rpm then drop steadily to 45ish all the way to 6800rpm on Dyno. Larger injectors, Holley Sniper fuel rail Non return system so stock Filter/Regulator. Changed that from an unknown to a Wix unit. Seems to have gotten worse. System use to take 20-45 min to leak down where now it's immediate. Going to run some tests tomorrow.
Apologies for the late reply - haven't logged in in a while. I replaced my pump just because it was the original pump (my car being a 97 = 22 years old) and it was whining pretty loudly - didn't want to get stranded somewhere with a broken pump. The new one's been great - I don't even hear it anymore. I also figured it'd be a good future-proofing step if I ever wanted to make some upgrades - for now, my car is pretty much stock.
I'm certainly no expert on fuel systems, so I'm not sure what is causing the problems you're seeing. I know with the Racetronix pump they recommend adding their harness to get power directly from the alternator instead of using the factory wiring. You might want to look at their technical note regarding using their pump / harness with late model C5's too: https://www.racetronix.biz/product.asp?ic=fpwh-007
