I'm told the h-pipe on my 2001 has a smaller hole than previous years. The aftermarket has x-pipes corsa, bassani, etc for a price of abouts $250. A local muffuler shop said they can cut the crossover pipe off, enlarge the current hole size and replace the crossover pipe. They can do this for about $100. I am looking to regain my low end torque I seem to have lost when I installed my stinger exhaust. What say you'll on the pro's and con's (X-pipe+more money or larger hole+less money)
I purchased the x-pipe from A&A for under $90 and had my local muffler shop install it. Works just as good as any of the higher priced x-pipes. Don't know about the pro's and con's of just enlarging the h-pipe.
I made a post a week ago. I have a 2001 birthed in November. When I put on custom Magnaflow Exhaust, I had the muffler shop open the H-pipe and it was almost the full size of the 2.5" hpipe.
However, that said. I still bought the Magnaflow Xpipe off Magnaflow's web site. Part number 10791. The price through my muffler shop was $140 installed. This is the same 12" long 2.5"core that is used on the $250 Magnaflow X-pipe and that does not include installation. The Xpipe did take the edge off the the exhaust tone from the new "non muffling" straight through mufflers. :D However, there is still quite a bit of muffled pop on decel which I was hoping to get rid of.
Some say you don't get any HP or Tq by installing an Xpipe. And I can not say. All I can tell you is this. I have never had my car Dynoed... But installing the custom Magnaflow straight through exhaust and the Xpipe, I can floor board the go pedal and the stock tires can no longer hold on... the revs hit 6000 very quickly, though the car is not moving that fast yet, and I have to feather it near the rev limiter till the MPH get to the right area. It was not that way, before those two installs.
It is colder this week than it was last week before the installs ... but there is a noticable difference. Dunno how much or what it is. Sorry. Best I can tell ya.
For those of us that have to meet strict emissions requirements, going to an off-road system is not an option. My experience with other vehicles has shown that an after-cat x-pipe will produce more power than the catback will, although both are worthwhile mods.In my case dynoed 8 more horsepower with x-pipe alone, added the catback and picked up an additional 5. All done the same day under similar conditions..
Just got the Magnaflow X pipe on this weekend and I can tell you that the hole in the stock H pipe was about as big around as a nickle, not nearly the size of the pipe diameter (2002 car). This has improved the sound IMO and my neighbor as well said it sounds different...better before I told him that I had it done.
