Default 2003 C5 rear prop shaft needed

Gents,
Looking for this rear prop shaft that goes inside the torque tube between the torque tube and the MANUAL transmission. Does anyone have one or know where I can get one? Also looking for a fair deal on the 3 bearings inside the Torque Tube.

Thanks in advance,
Ken

It holds two pressed on sealed bearings. One of them is wore to the point that the sealed bearing race is able to spin on the shaft. That wont last too much longer.

Highly doubt anything is wrong with the prop shaft. Just press the bearings off and get some new ones. Tick performance or rpm sells them as sets of 3 which is what you need to rebuild. Also dont forget the rubber o-rings in each end

I hope your are right.... but the bearing closest to the coupler is loose enough that the race will actually spin on the shaft. It is supposed to be a press on fit so that the bearing will spin between the inner and outer race. If anyone knows the specs for that shafts minimum diameter I would love to mic it and see for sure. I suppose I could have had a defective bearing (too loose) that would be very unlikely.

If anyone with a GM service manual knows the specs for that shafts minimum diameter I would love to mic it and see for sure.

You probably should measure the difference new bearing and the worn shaft. If the wear is only a few thousands of inch... you might want to try loctite 660 and let cure 24 hours...

I have a shop manual, and just took a look at it. There is no mention of dimensions, for that spindle. HOWEVER, there is mention that after pressing the spindle from the housing, you "remove the two snap rings, then slide off the bearing". If you can, and/or are supposed to slide the bearing off simply by removing 2 snap rings, then I would suspect that the bearing "floats", similar to the older cars that had brake rotors with inner and outer bearings, riding on the spindle....No??

Without the parts in front of me, it's a little difficult to picture.

Thank you for taking the time to look this up in the service manual! Any chance you could take a pic of the page in question and attach? Logic tells me it is a pressed fit, but from what you wrote above, it sounds like it slides off the shaft.

Thank you!

FWIW, when I had my work done, the labor cost and cost of new couplers and bearings was only $100 less than a whole new prop shaft assembly ($900). I just went with a new one. You might consider that option.

Good point - sometimes it makes sense to buy the whole thing. In this case, I think since my couplers are perfect I will just do the bearings.

Leadfoot 4 - that helps a TON - thank you!

Since I am going to keep the C5 for a long time, I need to invest in a factory manual. Where did you purchase yours if I may ask?

I bought a brand new set for $300. A week later someone was selling their used set of manuals for like $60 on the for sale section of this forum. Oh well.

If you can put off buying the manual, they do pop up here once in a while.

Also check ebay.

Sorry about the "flopped" images, but that was the only way to get my book situated on my scanner. With respect to the manuals, I seem to recall that Helm Inc was still the supplier of GM shop manuals, back when I bought my car, in 2001. I got the manuals right after I bought the car.
