Default shitboot retainer ring

Like many, my shift boot retainer ring was broken when i purchased the car, no big deal, my buddy had his broken and crazy glued it and has worked for 2 years, i tried it, but i make the first shift and lets loose again, maybe because it is broken at the front and not the side, dunno.
i have seen folks purchasing the steel ring from fleabay and they appear to be happy, not what i really want to do, $35 + $39 shipping to Canada.
Anyways, my question is, how does the boot secure to this ring, one wraps the boot around it and glues the crap out it ? Only way i see to attach it

Looks like you can either duct tape it or glue it.

I bought a similar ring from 'Southern Car Parts', and used it in conjunction with a "short" shift boot (Hurst shifter) that I got from 'Corvette Essentials', if my memory is correct. I found that the "slits" in the boot are placed to coincide with the "hooks" on the ring, and you just slip the boot over the ring, then snap the ring in place. The compression between the ring and the opening in the console, holds everything in place.

ok thank you sir.. can t remember seeing slots, but will check.. i purchased one from a member on here, and it is broken also..after asking him 3 times that it was not broken or cracked, he did a nice job of concealing it in the pics.
