Just pulled the trigger on a set of Bilstien B6 HD shocks, is there any advice you guys could give me, never installed shocks before, any torque values or anything. Thanks
As far as the install its pretty straight forward. I just installed my set in the driveway and didnt need to take off any other suspension components. You do need to compress the shocks to take them in and out. I used some heavy duty zip ties to keep them compressed. Took a couple hours with a few beer breaks. There are some youtube videos on this if you search. Good luck!
I had problems with the fronts - I bought the "special tool" which is supposed to grab the flattened part at the top of the shock and that broke almost immediately. At that point there was nothing left to hold the shaft in place to be able to remove the top nut. I was looking for an excuse to use my rotary grinder so I got a new diablo blade - PUT ON SAFETY GLASSES - and cut right through the top shaft. I then removed the bottom part of the shock - but the top part was still "hanging down with no way to grab it to be able to remove the top nut." I used the diablo to grind a flat spot into the shaft and was then able to grab the shaft with a vise grips and then remove the top nut. For installation of my Bilstein B8's I used the zip tie method to hold them down while compressed. Rears were no problem.
Have plenty of zip tie straps, Get the shock removal tool from the auto store. Get ready to move the coolant tank with out breaking the hose connections that are probably dry rotted some what. You might as well change the end links while your at it. Dont forget to reconnect the washer pump also when your done

Easy job for a beginner.
What do you mean by a shock removal tool at auto part store?

Made by Lisle and you can find on A or the auction site. With the fronts, I was able to slip a wrench on main nut and stabilize shaft with vice grip and did not need the tool. There is access from in the wheel well. The top nut is not torqued all that much so should be easy to free. Froggy videos on YouTube give pretty good tips but this is really an easy job with the zip tie method. Videos will show all the tricks to make it very straightforward. Will need a breaker bar for rear bottom bolts. Simple job even for the less mechanically minded ( like me). Go for it.
