BTW, that is oil in the valve. Normally that oil would be routed back into your intake manifold to be burned during combustion. It really makes a mess inside the intake manifold and intake runners.
Oil being consumed into the intake like that really lowers the octane of your a/f mixture, which then promotes detonation, carbon buildup, etc.. This mod is a very good idea, especially for stroker and heads/cam cars.. I did it on my car and have stopped a ton of oil from entering the intake manifold.
The arrow should point to the intake. I've had mine on for two weeks and no oil. Just a little yellow on the filter. When I did the mod, the line at the intake was a little oily. It's now clean. Have any changes been made to the later models that make this less of a problem?
Here is what mine looks like. http://www.shutterfly.com/osi.jsp?i=...21b308c82425a0

Well I also have a big cube engine w/ alot of mods which may increase crankcase pressure causing more oil accumilation. And driving habits have alot to do with it.
If I drive my car normally I seldom see any oil in there. When I beat it up it starts to accumulate. I also noticed once it gets to the bottom the filter it seems to stop there so I try to keep it drained.
If its installed properly and you dont see a lot of oil thats a good thing..
Killer. I'm going to do this to my car when I get it all back together.
One quick question. You mention being able to drain yours quickly. However, the other threads I've seen on this subject say to put permatex or something similar on that bottom draincock so that the pressure difference inside the filter doesn't cause that drain to open on its own.

Did you leave yours 'stock' and unsealed?
That because I am using a different style of valve. Go to Pep Boys to the the valve that I used. I think it was under $20 or so.

Go to pep-boys and go to where they have the air compressors. Look for the filter they says Manual Drain type, look in the back of the filter, it will say weather its Auto or Manual drain type.
It is a great mod and one of the easiest to do. I have a 97 MN6 and after one run I already saw some oil in the filter. It makes me want to clean all the oil out that burned off before I installed the filter!

Or just right click, then left click 'print picture' and take it with ya to pep boys. That would be too easy...
Besides pissing off the EPA-***** are there any negative issues with just running a filter on each valve cover and plugging the intake hole? I've heard rumours of needing to run a slight negative pressure in the crankcase with this slight vacuum but I haven't found any evidence to back that up? I've been running this way for some time now...
