Default 2003 Check engine light code

I just had a check engine light come on while driving home last night. I have a 2003 LS1 auto w/ 38000 miles. The code I got was P1416. Can anyone tell me what that involves -?

The P1416 involves the secondary AIR system...there are 2 one way check valves which prevent exhaust manifold air from going the wrong direction...you can see the left one pictured...I believe the 1416 is bank 2 which is behind the intake manifold and is impossible to get to without removing the intake manifold...sometimes these check valves get gummed up...you can “try” to free it up...remove the check valve pictured and spray some good old WD40 into the hose after you remove the check valve...reinstall the check valve and go for a ride...the PCM will run the check and turn on the pump for that system and hopefully during the time it might free up...when you get home clear the code and hopefully it will not come back !!...if you have an air compressor you can use that to blow air into the system...not a lot of pressure though !!!

Be warned it will smoke after this but it doesn't hurt anything, that is just the WD burning off.

Thanks so much for the advice - I was afraid it might be the passenger side - too much for me to tackle - I would take on the old carb cars with NO EGR's or computers - but the newer computer controlled cars are best left to experts - Thanks Again for your response!

A 1416 IS the passenger side but like I said remove the driver side check valve and blow some Water Displacement 40th formula into the hose end of the check valve...if no compressor just drive the car...you may have to do it a few times...I’d clear the code through the DIC and see if it comes back...the check valve may need replacement if it doesn’t work !!...if no compressor how is your lung capacity ??...LOL !!...the WD doesn’t have far to travel !!

Diag - Thanks for the help - I actually cured this by adding a can of Octane Booster to my gas - (may have been substandard) - which was recommended by a post I saw on the forum about C5 issues. I was on the way to the mechanic's when I floored my car to get past a small Honda who wouldn't let me merge - when lo and behold - the light went out. Drove around for another 1/2 hour and all was ok. I guess I got lucky? Thanks again for your advice.

Great to hear but don't think this Octane Booster had anything to do with your MIL going out...we're talking about a fuel system and an air system component...and as Rudyard Kipling so poetically said...."never the twain shall meet" !!!
